A card is placed into the case and the lid is closed. When the lid is opened, a totally different card is revealed. The case can be passed out for examination. Many other tricks in which (cards appear or disappear, torn and restored, Esp routines...) can be performed with this case. An astounding variety of effects can be generated whit just this single innocuous looking case. The various effects are easiest to follow if you read the basic instruction carefully.
Card Case was sold for the first time in 1970 by Tenyo. 40 years later Tenyo continues to produce and sell this magic trick that has become a classic thanks to its great variety of use. There are many different versions because Over the years, the equipment has undergone several changes in its design and the instructions have been improved and completed.

Card Case est le matériel parfait pour présenter différents effets de mentalisme ou de disparition / apparition / changement de cartes. Par exemple le spectateur choisi une carte au hasard, vous placez ensuite un bout de papier blanc et vierge avec un crayon dans la boite et indiquez que vous allez demander de l'aide à un esprit pour deviner la carte choisie. Lorsque la boite est ré-ouverte le spectateur découvrira le nom de sa carte écrit sur le bout de papier! Vous pourrez aussi vous servir de cette boite pour reconstituer une carte de visite déchirée en mille morceaux. La boîte peut être examinée par les spectateur sans risque, ils ne découvrirons rien. The very first version was produced under the name "Card Case" and the case was totally black with no stickers on the cover. A second version exists with this time the Tenyo's logo representing a head of rabbit engraved on one corner of the lid. The instruction sheet with a single page explaining simple routines to perform card changes.

Later a new version was sold and the name of the trick became "Telepathie Box" in Japan. For this new version Tenyo added a stickers representing an ornamental blue design in the middle of the lid. The instructions has been modified and explains new routines to make appear a card, guessing a card freely chosen by a spectator and an effect where paper cut into several pieces which reconstitutes itself.

Another rare version little known by collectors was then produced only in Japan. The design of the box is always the same but this time there is a sticker representing two pink round and two blue arcs in the middle of the lid. This version is different from others because that it is the only one that provides a set of 4 gimmicked cards, a bit like what was done for the "Monster" version of Card Frame. These 4 special cards allow to present new unpublished routine. For example, a card on which is drawn a 100yen coin is put in the case wich is closed. The magician will then make appear and materialize a real 100 Yen coin and when the box is reopened the drawing has disappeared and the card is white. In another effect a selected card will gradually turn into another card in a very visual way. Unfortunately I do not know what is the use of the card representing a gorilla. This version of Card Case is certainly the most astonishing with the special cards and his very modern box design.

Une autre version plus rare et méconnue des collectionneurs a été produite ensuite seulement au Japon. Le design de la boite est toujours identique mais cette fois il y a un stickers (représentant deux ronds roses et deux arcs de cercle bleus) au milieu du couvercle. Cette version est différente de toutes les autres car c' est la seule qui fournit un set de 4 cartes truquées, un peu comme ce qui avait été fait pour la version du tour Card Frame avec ses Monster Card. Ces 4 cartes spéciales permettent de présenter de nouvelle routine inédite. Par exemple une carte sur laquelle est dessinée une pièce de 100Yen est mise dans la boite qui est refermée. Le magicien va alors faire apparaitre et matérialiser une véritable pièce de 100yen et quand la boite est ré-ouverte le dessin a disparu et la carte est blanche. Dans un autre effet une carte choisie va se transformer progressivement en une autre d'une manière très visuelle. Hélas je ne sais pas à quoi sert la carte représentant un gorille. Cette version de Card case est certainement la plus étonnante avec ses cartes spéciales et le design de sa boite très moderne.

Here is the latest version produced by Tenyo. This time the box himself is different and every part of the cover is totally flat and smooth. There is no more all reliefs in the lid of the original case. Another change, the ornaments are now printed directly on the cover and not just thanks to a stuck stickers. The instructions sheet have been further improved and completed with the addition of a routine where a spirit writes a message on a white sheet. A blank sheet is put in the box which is closed. The box is reopened briefly to add a small pencil. Magician then invokes the spirits and when the box is opened again, one discovers a message or prediction was written.

Voici la dernière version produite par Tenyo. Cette fois-ci la boite en elle même est différente et chaque partie du couvercle est totalement plate et lisse. Il n'y a plus les différents reliefs de la version originale. Autre changement, les ornements sont maintenant directement imprimés sur le couvercle et non plus simplement collés grâce à un stickers. La notice a été une nouvelle fois améliorée et complétée avec l'ajout d'une routine où un esprit écrit un message sur une feuille blanche. Une feuille blanche est mise dans la boite qui est refermée. La boite est ré-ouverte un bref instant pour y ajouter un petit crayon de papier. On invoque alors un esprit, et lorsque la boite est ouverte, on découvre qu'un message ou une prédiction a été écrite.

Effect: A hole is put into a small sheet of Paper-punch. The paper is placed into Card case. The performer now mimes punching another hole, by working the punch above the closed case. When the case is opened, there are now two holes in the paper. The paper is returned to the case. Another "mime punch" is performed. When the case is opened, there are now three holes in it. The paper is checked by a spectator; the holes are genuine. The paper is returned to the case. Five more "mime punches" are executed. When the case is opened, there are eight holes in the paper !
Preparation:
You will need the Tenyo Card case. You will also need a paper punch, two pieces of white paper 1-1/2 inches square, some black paper, and some paste. Punch six holes into the black paper, and remove the cut-out black dots from the punch. Paste one dot onto one of the white paper, which we call paper A. ( refer to figure 1). Punch three holes and paste five dot into the second white paper, which we call paper B. (refer to fugure 2).Put paper B into the non-magnet side of the Card Case, dot-side-up. Place the flap on top of it, as shown in figure 3. Leave the case open. You are ready to begin.
Performance:
Bring out paper A, blank side-up. Openly use the punch to make a hole in the paper, in the position shown in figure 4. Put this paper into the magnet side of the open case, as in figure 5. Close the case, turning the magnet side over the non magnet side, as in figure 6. Wave the paper-punch over the closed case, making the motions of a single punch action. Open the case, displaying ( apparently) two holes in the paper, as in figure 7.
Close the case, turning the non-magnet side over the magnet side, as in figure 8. Make a punching action over the case. open the case, displaying three holes in the paper, as in figure 9. Remove the paper from the case and let the spectator feel the holes to be sure they're real, as in figure 10. Act as if the trick is over, putting the paper back into the non-magnet side of the case. Close the case, turning the non-magnet side over the magnet side. Say, "if I were to punch many times, can you imagine the result ?" Wave the paper-punch over the closed case, making five punching actions. Open the case and show the result, as in figure 11, for you climax.

Effet : On fait un trou avec une perforatrice dans une petite feuille de papier. La feuille est ensuite placée dans le Card Case. Le magicien se place au dessus de la boite fermée et mime avec la perforatrice l'action de faire un nouveau trou virtuel dans la feuille . Quand la boite est ré-ouverte il y a maintenant deux trous sur la feuille. On remet ensuite la feuille dans la boite. Le magicien fait à nouveau semblant de faire un trou. Quand la boite est ouverte il y a maintenant 3 trous sur la feuille ! Le papier est examiné par le spectateur et les trous sont tous bien réels. On remet la feuille dans la boite et là le magicien mime l'action de faire 5 nouveaux trous. Quand la boite est ouverte une dernière fois, il y a maintenant 8 trous sur la feuille !
Préparation :
Vous avez besoin du Tenyo Card Case. Il vous faut aussi une perforatrice, deux carrés de papier identiques, du papier noir, et de la colle. Faites 6 trous dans le papier noir et récuperez les ronds noirs découpés par la perforatrice. Collez un des ronds noir sur une des deux feuilles de papier blanc que nous appellerons "Papier A" (figure 1). Faites maintenant 3 trous et collez les 5 ronds noirs qui vous restent sur l'autre feuille de papier que nous appellerons "Papier B" (figure 2). Mettez le Papier B sur le coté non magnétique du Card Case avec les ronds noirs visibles vers le haut. Placez la plaque au dessus comme montré sur le figure 3. Laissez la boite ouverte. Vous êtes prêt à commencer la routine.
Performance :
Présentez la feuille de Papier A, face blanche visible. Utilisez visiblement la perforatrice pour faire un trou dans la feuille, dans la position indiquée par la figure 4. Mettez la feuille sur la partie magnétique de la boite ouverte, comme sur la figure 5. Fermez la boite, en refermant la partie magnétique sur la partie non magnétique comme sur la figure 6. Agitez la perforatrice au dessus de la boite fermée et mimez le fait de faire un seul trou avec. Ouvrez la boite afin que les spectateurs découvrent les deux trous sur la feuille de papier comme sur la figure7. Fermez la boite afin que la plaque se retrouve sur la partie magnétique comme indiqué sur la figure 8. Mimez l'action de faire un nouveau trou, ouvrez la boite et montrez les 3 trous sur la feuille (Figure 9). Retirez la feuille de la boite et laissez le spectateur l'examiner et voir que les trois trous sont bien réels (figure 10). Faites alors comme si le tour etait terminé en remetant la feuille de papier sur la partie non magnétique de la boite. Fermez la boite de sorte que la partie magnétique se retrouve sur la partie magnétique. Dites, tout en mimant l'action, " Si je faisais plein de trous avec la perforatrice que se passerait il ?". Ouvrez la boite et montrez le résultat comme indiqué sur le figure 11 pour le grand final.
