A borrowed bill is balanced on top of a pencil tip. With spectator’s command, the bill starts spinning without anyone touching it. The bill can be stopped and then restarted to spin freely at anytime. You have complete control over the bill, and can make it stop, and even rotate in the opposite direction. The well-constructed gimmick makes many effects possible. The bill can be stuck on the pencil even you lift up the pencil. The bill is placed on the pencil in the coffee cup. Without touching anything, the bill spins on the pencil. You can have spectator examine the pencil after performance so you can perform this impromptu-looking effect whenever you wish.

Le magicien présente un crayon et un billet de banque aux spectateurs. Le billet qui peut être emprunté est plié en deux dans le sens de la longueur et il est placé en équilibre sur le crayon. Sans jamais toucher le billet, celui ci va se mettre à bouger doucement et à se mettre en rotation sur simple commande du spectateur. Vous avez un contrôle complet sur le billet et sa rotation peut être stoppé à tout moment pour reprendre quand vous l'aurez décidé, vous pourrez même le faire tourner dans le sens inverse. Ensuite le crayon est placé dans un petit verre, afin que le magicien ne le touche plus du tout et pourtant le billet continuera à tourner encore et encore sans explication. En fait de nombreux effets sont possible grâce au gimmick astucieusement incorporé au crayon et il est même possible, si besoin, de laisser les spectateurs examiner le crayon et le billet à la fin de la performance.

Review:
"Shrinking pen" is a really nice effect and you can easily carry in your pocket to perform it at any time! You may think you understand how the mechanism works but the gimmick is much more subtle than you think. Seeing video I thought I figured out how it worked, later when I received the trick I was pleasantly surprised seeing that the construction of the pen is really more complex than I expected. I think it's really possible, taking care of the presentation, to make of this trick something the audience will love. I should add that the way the trick is performed on video doesn't do justice to the trick.  In fact the spectator can holds the big pen from the beginning to the end, without ever release it, unlike what is shown in the video and do it that way it will remove the doubt of an exchange or otherwise, making this effect even more impressive. Shrinking pen is an effect that may be interesting to present along "Undercover Cube" because this is the same style of routine depriving the spectator of his vision to play with his other senses. It's "the magic you can feel" as described on the box.

Le nom de ce tour parle par lui-même ! Vous montrez un gros stylo rouge à votre public, il parait tout à fait ordinaire. Demandez à un spectateur de le tenir entre ses doigts sous un foulard. Pendant que le stylo est tenu, le spectateur sent aussitôt le stylo rétrécir. Lorsque le foulard est enlevé, le stylo a réellement raccourci et est devenu minuscule ! Le public peut alors examiner le stylo sans risque.

Review:
Le "Shrinking pen" est un effet sympathique que vous pouvez transporter dans votre poche pour le présenter à tout moment ! Vous pensez peut être avoir deviner son fonctionnement, mais en fait le truc est beaucoup plus subtil que vous ne le pensez. Moi même en voyant la vidéo je croyais avoir trouvé comment cela fonctionnait. Pourtant, quand j'ai reçu le tour j'ai été agréablement surpris de voir que la construction du stylo est vraiment plus complexe que ce que j'imaginais et je pense qu'il y a vraiment moyen, en soignant la présentation, d'en faire un effet que votre public aimera. Je tiens à ajouter que la manière dont est présenté l'effet sur le vidéo ci dessous ne rend pas justice au tour. En effet, à la différence de ce qui est montré dans la vidéo, vous pourrez faire en sorte que le spectateur tienne le gros stylo du début à la fin sans jamais le lâcher et cela enlève immédiatement le doute d'un échange. En présentant de cette manière l'impact est encore plus fort car le spectateur n'a aucune piste pour comprendre comment le stylo a rétrécie de la sorte alors qu'il ne l'a jamais lâché. Pour conclure il peut être judicieux de présenter Shrinking Pen à la suite de "Undercover Cube" car il s'agit ici du même style de routine qui prive le spectateur de la vue pour jouer avec ses autres sens.

Review:
This version is true to its name, it is really ultimate! No double mine, nothing to add or remove, nothing to hide. The finishes are perfect and high quality. The pen that the public can examine is the one that pierced to the bill during the presentation. Also unlike some models already on sale or only the tip of the mine pierces the bill, the Tenyo pen is much more realistic because the part that penetrates the bill is much longer and it is definitely more realistic as you can see on the photos. The locking system is extremely ingenious and fits in a completely natural way during the presentation. Very effective and if you do buy only one, take the version from Tenyo without hesitation.

Un grand classique de la magie, le stylo à travers le billet, fait son retour ici dans une version parfaite en tout points. Vous présentez un stylo tout à fait normal, vous vous en servez pour transpercer à vu un billet de banque. Aucun doute possible le stylo transperce bien le billet et vous montrez celui ci sous tout les angles. Ensuite en un éclair et toujours devant les yeux du public le stylo est retiré du billet et bien sur le billet n'est toujours pas abîmé ! Dans cette version Tenyo a collaboré avec Doug Edwards, créateur du mythique « Wonder Pen-etration » et grâce à l'ingéniosité de Tenyo cet effet est désormais examinable sans avoir à cacher quoi que ce soit à la fin du tour.

Review:
Cette version porte bien son nom, elle est vraiment ultime ! Pas de double mine, rien à ajouter ni à enlever, rien à cacher. Les finitions sont parfaites et de grande qualités. Le stylo que le public pourra examiner est bien celui qui à transpercé le billet pendant le tour. De plus à la différence de certain modèles déjà commercialisés ou seul le bout de la mine transperce le billet, le stylo de Tenyo lui est beaucoup plus réaliste car la partie qui transperce le billet est beaucoup plus grande comme vous pouvez le voir sur les photos. Le système de verrouillage quand à lui est extrêmement ingénieux et s'intègre de manière totalement naturelle durant la présentation. Très efficace ! Si vous devez n'en acheter qu'un, prenez la version de chez Tenyo sans hésitation.

The pen is placed on top of a closed pen case and surrounded by 2 frames. You pretend to cut through the pen case's lid. When the frames are lifted, the pen has completely vanished! The pen appears inside of the previously empty pen case ! The props are beautiful and the trick very clever ! You must have this one.

Development story :
After the global success of Invisible Zone Tenyo magic inventors Hiroshi Kondo and Toru Suzuki met again with Lubor in New York in 1996. Kondo and Suzuki were introduced to more than ten new works Lubor had created over the last year.  And another of the wonders witnessed by Kondo and Suzuki that winter's day in new York was a perforation trick using a ballpoint pen. They had it repeated before their watchful gaz more than ten times, but were still unable to grasp even a clue as to how it had been performed. When finally told how it was done on their last night there, the two could only shake their heads in wonder. The principle behind the trick was so amazing, of course, no one would be able to see through it. Kondo and Suzuki brought a prototype back with them to Japan an showed it to many magicians. Not one was able to figure it out. When Lubor Fiedler was originally experimenting with the materials used to construct this trick, one of the items rolled along the tabletop and fell to the floor. He searched for the prop, but could not find it anywhere. When he finally located the item in an unexpected place, he hit upon the idea for a new trick. The principle itself is truly marvelous, and the time misdirection that is used within the presentation is very well thought out.

It's possible to simply use a transparent silk instead of the 2 frames. Look at the second part of the video below to understand how to do.

Un stylo est placé sur le dessus de son étui, et entouré par deux cadres qui le dissimulent. Puis, à l'aide d'un « couteau », on mime le fait de pratiquer une fente dans le couvercle de l'étui. On entend le stylo traverser le couvercle pour tomber à sa place dans la boîte. Lorsque les cadres sont retirés, le stylo a disparu et le couvercle est intact... sans aucune fente. Pourtant, le stylo est bien à l'intérieur de l'étui ! C'est un effet superbe qui trompera même les magiciens les plus malins. Un très beau tour, le matériel est d'une qualité irréprochable et le truc d'une ingéniosité digne des plus grands Tenyo. A posséder !

Histoire du développement :

Quand "Lubor Fiedler" fessait ses expérimentations avec le matériel utilisé pour ce tour, un des objets à roulé tranquillement le long de la table et est tombé sur le sol. Il a alors cherché à ramasser cet objet mais il était introuvable, impossible de savoir ou il était tombé. Quand il le retrouva finalement dans un endroit totalement inattendu cela lui a donné l'idée d'un nouveau tour. Le principe lui même est vraiment merveilleux et on peut dire que sa maladresse lui a permit de concevoir un effet vraiment magnifique et complètement mystérieux qu'il n'aurait jamais trouvé normalement même en y réfléchissant très longtemps !

Astuce de Kenji Shimizu:
Il est possible de simplement utiliser un foulard transparent à la place des deux cadres qui emprisonnent le stylo. Regardez la deuxième partie de la vidéo ci dessous pour comprendre comment faire.

Then you proceed to kill them when you turn the center of the pencil around a full 90 degress and then continue right round 360 degrees ... only to restore it completely a moment later ! It blows away any theory they had and leaves them speechless. Twister is visual, eye-popping magic, performed only inches away. This revolutionary illusion has fooled some of the best minds in magic ! Simple elegant design and function whit this classic stage illusion done close up. Best clever mechanical apparatus created by Tenyo.

Review:
The highlight of this trick is that the base of the device is as thin as paper, much too thin to hide anything. Additionally you can display all the sides of the device at the beginning of the performance. The effect is one of the most diabolical of all Tenyo's effect whit a super clever micro-mechanism. Twister remains one of my favorite tricks because the is so smart and successful but mainly because it gives a shock to the viewer who thought he understood the trick until the moment where you can prove, without saying anything, just by turning the center of the props, that he was wrong and that the mystery remains unsolved while becoming even more incomprehensible! The design is great too, with well chosen colors and Tenyo's version is most successful in terms of design than the MB Version. Twister is one of the best "Zig Zag" trick ever created and  we can note that Tenyo excels in this domain because all their Zig Zag effects are always absolutly stunning and very ingenious like Trisector, Mini Zag, Side Track or best seller Zig Zag Cig.

Un petit crayon ordinaire est placé à l'intérieur du Twister qui est montré au spectateur de tout les cotés. Soudain, le magicien tord le centre du crayon pendant que ces deux extrémités restent visibles pendant tout le tour à travers les petites fenêtre de l'appareil ! La le spectateur peut suspecter que le crayon est toujours caché dans la partie épaisse de l'appareil mais finalement vous continuer à tourner le centre du twister la ou rien ne peux être caché tellement le contour est fin et après un tour complet, le twister est remis dans sa position initiale, le crayon est retiré et tout est intact !

Review:
Le point fort de ce tour est le fait que la base de l'appareil est aussi fine qu'une feuille de papier, beaucoup trop fine pour y cacher quoi que ce soit. De plus vous pouvez montrer l'appareil de tout les cotés au début de la routine. L'effet est un des plus diabolique de tout les Tenyo, sublime micro-mécanisme et Twister reste un de mes tours préférés tellement il est ingénieux et abouti. Mais son autre point fort est qu' il donne un choc aux spectateurs qui pensaient avoir compris le truc jusqu'au moment ou vous lui prouvez, sans dire un seul mot et  juste en tournant le centre de l'appareil, qu'il s'est trompé et que le mystère reste entier tout en devenant encore plus incompréhensible ! Le design est quand à lui vraiment réussi avec un bon choix de couleurs et la version Tenyo est bien plus jolie que la version produite par MB. Twister est vraiment un des meilleurs effet de type Zig Zag et on peut noter que Tenyo excelle vraiment dans ce domaine car toutes leurs créations utilisant ce principe sont toujours etonnantes et ingénieuse comme Triscetor, Mini-Zag, Side Track ou le best seller Zig Zag Cig.

In 1995 The company Hasbro Canada Inc. distributed Twister under the name "TWISTED PENCIL" in the third séries (with Illusionarium and Diabolicus) of the Magic Works collection. The trick and gimmick is the same but the design was changed and the color of the device is now blue/green. In addition a yellow rectangle was added to the central part to reinforce the illusion when the pen is divided into three parts. Unlike the Tenyo version that was only available in magic shops, this MB version has been widely distributed throughout the world in toy stores. Magic Works collection was sold in many countries including France under the name of Magic scene.

La compagnie Hasbro Canada Inc. a distribué Twister sous le nom « TWISTED PENCIL » en 1995 dans la série 3 de la collection Magic Works. Le tour est le même mais le design à été modifié et la couleur de l'appareil est bleu vert. De plus un rectangle jaune à été ajouté sur la partie centrale afin de renforcer l'illusion une fois que le crayon est découpé en trois partie. Au contraire de la version Tenyo qui était seulement disponible dans les magasins de magie, cette version MB a été largement distribué à travers le monde dans les magasins de jouet. Located on the right end of the plastic board is a round hole. A pen is inserted into the hole. And, lo, the hole starts moving together with the pen. It migrate up, down and across freely in any direction. To conclude the act, guide the hole to the left end of the board and slowly remove the pen to reveal the hole. The hole has travelled the entire lenght of the board from its original location on the right while in constant full-view of the audience.
A hole that moves ? This baffling concept had even Tenyo's creative department stumped at first. But thanks to the brilliant magical mind of Hideo Kato, we turned this seemingly impossible task into reality. The hole moves all over a plastic board right in front of the eyes of the spectators. An amazing close-up illusion.

1979 marked Hideo Kato's first monumental achievement in design and ingenuity with the release of Tenyo's T-96, The Wandering Hole. The impact of which is still largely unappreciated, under-esteemed and unrecognized throughout the fraternity. A true disservice to both the man and the company. An illusion years ahead of its time. Why Hideo Kato is not attributed as the inventor of the Pen Through Anything principle, escapes all logic and reasoning. The props themselves are colour co-ordinated feigning a deceptively simple to the eyes appearance, all tied together with clean functionality.
The whimsical concept of a moving hole evokes fond memories of a Bugs Bunny / Roadrunner / Pink Panther animated cartoon. A scientific impossibility using only space and matter warped beyond mind comprehension. Best of all, with a minor substitution and a little practice the effect will be easily performed and fully examinable. The well kept secret finally exposed...use T-214, Ultimate Shocking Pen in conjunction with the board (plate).
Personally, I consider this illusion one of Tenyo's best "Hidden Gems" creations. Hideo Kato deserves and is long overdue accolades for this breakthrough accomplishment. Let's give the man his due. The enclosed instructionary patter is simple and straight forward, yet brilliant in delivery while in performance. Just like the illusion itself.

Une plaque de plastique joliment décorée est présentée aux spectateurs. On peut y voir un trou à l'une des extrémités à droite. Vous insérez alors un stylo dans ce trou puis vous déplacez le stylo vers la gauche et le trou se déplace aussi! Vous pouvez allez en haut, en bas, le trou se déplace dans tout les sens que vous voulez. Pour finir vous déplacez le stylo à l'extrémité gauche de la plaque et tout doucement vous retirer le stylo laissant logiquement apparaitre un trou. Le trou à donc voyagé sur tout le surface de la plaque de son emplacement d'origine à droite pour se retrouver à gauche et cela sans que les spectateurs ne quitte jamais des yeux tout le dispositif.

L'année 1979 a été marquée par la première grande réussite d' Hideo Kato en matière de design et d’ingéniosité avec la création du tour de magie Tenyo T-96 The Wandering Hole.
L'impact de cet effet est largement sous estimé et souvent peu apprécié de la communauté de magicien, de fait ce tour n'a jamais obtenu la reconnaissance qu'il aurait pourtant mérité. Une vrai injustice quand on y pense, autant pour le créateur que pour la marque Japonaise qui a commercialisé ce tour clairement en avance sur son temps... En effet le fait qu' Hideo Kato n'ai jamais été crédité comme étant l'inventeur du principe du "stylo à travers quelque chose" échappe a toute logique et est vraiment étonnant.
Les accessoires utilisent habilement des couleurs coordonnées feignant une apparente simplicité pourtant trompeuse, car chaque partie du matériel a des fonctionnalités propres qui s’intègrent parfaitement les unes aux autres pour créer une illusion complète et inédite.
Le concept fantaisiste d'un trou que l'on peut déplacer à volonté nous rappelle avec nostalgie les vieux dessins animés cartoon comme Bib Bib le Coyote, Bugs Bunny ou encore la Panthère Rose. The Wandering Hole est une sorte d' impossibilité scientifique qui défie les règles de l'espace et du temps avec amusement et au delà toute compréhension pragmatique. Et cerise sur le gâteau, avec un changement mineur, cette routine deviendra aussi facile à présenter et complétement examinable. Comment me direz vous ? Le secret bien gardé va finalement être exposé, honte a moi ... Utilisez simplement le stylo du tour Tenyo T-214 Ultimate Shocking Pen à la place du stylo fourni et présentez ensuite le tour comme indiqué sur la notice. Avec un peu d'entrainement vous arriverez à présenter le tour de cette manière et vous pourrez tout laisser à l'examen à la fin de votre routine.
Personnellement, je considère que cette illusion crée par la marque Tenyo est un véritable petit bijou qui serait resté caché toutes ces années durant et qui attend qu' un magicien le découvre pour briller à nouveau de mille feux. Il serait bien venu, après tout ce temps, que le travail d'Hideo Kato sur cet effet soit enfin apprécié à sa juste valeur alors donnons enfin à l'homme la reconnaissance qu'il mérite pour cette création.
Pour finir, il est à noter que la routine proposée dans la notice est facile à comprendre et à suivre et une fois exécutée elle devient brillante... Tout comme l'illusion elle même finalement. Un effet Tripe A ;o)
